      Characterization is how the author gives the character personal traits. Direct characterization is when the author directly gives you the personal traits of a character. For example " The girl is bored," That is a direct characterization because I am telling you exactly what she feels. Indirect characterization is when the author gives you clues on characterization. Like for example " The girl plays with her pencil, not, paying attention, and is half asleep." That is not telling you she is bored just clues to explain how she is acting.

      People whisper while while she comes in. All eyes are on her. On her face has dirt and scratches. The clothes she is wearing are ripped and dirty.
