Conflict in Mocking Jay

 Man vs Society

I see Man vs Society in my book. Man vs Society is when a person goes against a culture or way of life. The main character in my book, Katniss, has to destroy the capitol and become the Mocking Jay. They are called the rebels because they are going against the whole country. She has to face external conflict when she fights in wars. By becoming a rebel she has change physically and mentally.

Man vs Self

I see Man vs Self in my book. This is when a person has to make a decision, has a mental illness, or is at war with themselves. In my book Katniss has to fight with people, but also herself. When some of the people in her life die, she must fight through it. She is fighting internal conflict. Like in the very end she goes through depression. She than is uplifted by someone.

Mocking Jay By: Suzanne Collins

Who is the main character?

The main characters name is Katniss Everdeen. Katniss lives in District 13, but was born in District 12. She went through the Hunger Games twice, but escaped the 2nd time. I would say her personality is stubborn, kind-hearted, she HATES the capitol, but means well. She lives in a country named Panem. They are about to fight in a war because of Katniss. She has to become the Mocking Jay.

The prediction of the climax

I predict that during the climax, she will be fighting against President Snow. She might kill him. In order to solve the conflict she will have to go in the capitol get Peeta, kidnap Snow, destroy the capitol, and later kill Snow. It will be exciting because this is the final book of the series and I hope it will have a decent ending.( Meaning that they don't all die!) I hope that my main character will change Panem and will not die.

What is point of view and how does it effect a story?

Point of View

  • Point of View is the perspective of which the story is being told and who is telling it.
  • 1st Person Point of View is when a character is telling the story throughout heir eyes. They refer to themselves as "I"
  • 3rd Person Point of View is when a character that is not in the story is the narrator.
  • 3rd Person Point of View is when a character that is not in the story is the narrator.

How does it effect a story?

This is another kind of point of view.
I see an old woman and a young woman.
What do you see?

Well it effects the way you see things, like a different perspective. So if it is 1st person than you might get more details on the persons life. Or their specific opinion on some things. In 3rd person you could get more opinions because you are the voice for other people.

What is direct and indirect characterization? In a 6-8 sentence short story, use both direct and indirect characterization to bring a character to life.

What is direct and indirect characterization?

Characterization is how the author gives the character personal traits. Direct characterization is when the author directly gives you the personal traits of a character. For example " The girl is bored," That is a direct characterization because I am telling you exactly what she feels. Indirect characterization is when the author gives you clues on characterization. Like for example " The girl plays with her pencil, not, paying attention, and is half asleep." That is not telling you she is bored just clues to explain how she is acting.

The Girl

People whisper while while she comes in. All eyes are on her. On her face has dirt and scratches. The clothes she is wearing are ripped and dirty. She barely ever speaks, so people spread rumors about her. Ugly rumors. "She is the homeless girl, the girl who lives by herself with no family," These are only rumors, but rumors that might be true.
